The unique inheritance my grandfather bequeathed us was the art of music. Everything commenced circa 1915. Somehow, my grandfather learned to play the vihuela and guitar, which launched his career in the mariachi music. He would travel the Mexican country by foot entertaining from pueblo to pueblo.

In 1925, my Uncle Juan was born in San Luis Potosi and my grandfather taught him everything he knew about the guitar and vihuela. At the age of sixteen years old, my uncle went to Mexico City and started working in Garibaldi, the meca of the mariachi. Being there in Mexico City, he learned to play the violin and played with the best mariachi’s in those years. He also went to school and learned how to read music and composition. Through the years he learned from the heart and soul of the mariachi music and was impregnated with this art, which later he passed on to my father, Margarito.

Actually, my Uncle Juan formed his own mariachi, Los Mensajeros, who became the official mariachi to accompany Javier Solis. In 1961, he migrated to the United States. He was one of the pioneers to open a new market for mariachi’s abroad.

My father then taught me how to play the violin. Through the years, I eventually learned to play the rest of the instruments, such as the guitarron, vihuela, and trumpet. I initiated my career at the age of seventeen in a mariachi in Garibaldi, the meca of the mariachi.

As my brothers grew up, I taught them to play the instruments with the goal of forming our own family mariachi and passing down the tradition so that it is not lost. Now I have taught my son to play the trumpet and have inherited this family tradition. My hope is that the tradition will be passed on for new generations to come.

The mariachi we have now is named Mariachi Los Martinillos because my name is Martin. We are proud to represent one of the many traditions of the Mexican culture. We are at your service for any event that you may have and I guarantee you will enjoy every minute of it.
